The excellent Scienceworks Museum combines science and technology through a variety of ‘hands on’ exhibits, activities, tactile displays and highly interactive touring shows.

Come and watch live high voltage demonstrations in The Lightning Room. Have a hair-raising experience and learn about electricity and lightning through spectacular demonstrations in a live show. Highlights include a 2 million volt lightning demonstration.

Part of Scienceworks comprises the historic Spotswood Pumping Station, an early industrial complex with enormous working steam pumps. Classified by the National Trust, the station and its pumps helped nineteenth-century Melbourne get rid of its severe stench (satirists of the day called the city ‘Marvellous Smellbourne’).

Journey to the stars and beyond at the Melbourne Planetarium, located in the Melbourne suburb of Spotswood. Planetarium shows are digitally-created and simulate space using awesome images and special effects for an experience that immerses you in another world, another galaxy. Sit beneath a 16 metre dome and experience the night sky in astonishing detail and stereo surround sound. There is a show to suit every age group.
